The Grinling Gibbons white marble font consists of an ovoid bowl raised on a stem realistically carved to represent the Tree of Knowledge and the Serpent entwined about it and Adam standing on one side and Eve on the other (The Fall). The bowl is decorated with three panels carved in low relief to represent John the Baptist (The Forerunner) & the Baptism of Christ & St. Philip baptizing the Eunuch of Candace, & Noah's Ark (The Flood). On the 11th December 2007 from noon till meltdown and to mark the 250th anniversary of the poet & visionary William Blake - the artist Martin Sexton will create ice installations inside the Grinling Gibbons font- where William Blake was baptized and outside by the Viscount pool in St James Church Gardens - entitled: ‘The Fall, the Flood, the Forerunner, the Font & the Fabulist’ The artist describes the work as a sculptural poem and this installation continues on from similar works created this year by the artist including: ‘Frozen Music’- an ice memorial at Bunhill Fields EC2 to mark William Blake’s precise resting place & ‘All Time is Golden’ in Golden Square W1 to mark Blake’s 250th birthday.
